Block Improvements

In January 2003 NDC started a programme of “Block Improvement Schemes”

These schemes were developed through forums such as, The Physical and Environment Task Group, The Housing Sub-Group, local residents' associations and Neighbourhood Planning events.

The schemes have been funded through NDC’s Capital Programme and the Manchester Salford Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder.

The aim behind undertaking block improvement work is to carry out selective improvements and refurbishments to support the housing market within the area. The objectives are as follows:

• To provide certainty regarding the future of the properties and encourage owner investment in their own homes;

• To stabilise and revive the local housing market;

• To improve the fabric of property that may have been neglected;

• To reduce maintenance obligations in the short-medium term until owner confidence and the housing market improves;

• To create attractive neighbourhoods where people, both existing residents and newcomers, would choose to live.
