Lower Kersal Estate - Kingsley Avenue Circle

Kingsley Avenue Circle before improvements

One of the biggest transformations achieved by the CEP has been Kingsley Avenue on the Lower Kersal Estate.

Kingsley Avenue roundabout was a bleak and misused space - a haven for motorbikes but a blight for for local residents. But after working with Groundwork, they've now turned an area known as The Green into a safe, secure landscaped informal play area for young children.

Residents living near the site were asked for their ideas, a sea theme was chosen and local children helped design attractive play markings to bringten up the area.

Moulded grass area "islands" linked by stepping stones and a blue "sea" of tarmac with the children's fish design have all gone on to the site which is enclosed by low-level but sturdy fencing.

The Green is now a safe, secure and attractive place for children to play. The problems with the cars and motorbikes have been reduced and it is now the focal point for many community activites.

"I have lived in Kersal for years and always thought of Kingsley Green as a roundabout - now its much more than that" said one resident at the opening of this new play haven.
