Carers' Development
"Healthy carers, healthy lives, healthy services."
The Carers' Development service builds on the earlier Carers' Support Service that was run in the NDC area. It aims to:
- develop locally based carers' support in areas where there are a lower than average number of local support groups and/or a higher than average number of carers.
Why?
- Caring may affect anyone, and can have life-altering consequences.
- Caring forms a vital part of the fabric and character of every community.
- Without carers, health and social care services would be overwhelmed with demand.
What difference does it make?
"Thank you for helping me get back into work. The support given couldn't be bought." (carer)
- better local support for carers
- better information for carers
- greater confidence / more breaks.

Who?
Carers, aged 16 and over, resident in the priority areas. A carer spends a significant proportion of their life providing unpaid support to family or potentially friends. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.
Where?
Claremont and Weaste, in the City of Salford.
How?
- identifying key local resources
- engaging local carers, their strengths and assets and raising their profile
- supporting the development of a sustainable local infrastructure of effective carers' support
- taking an overview of the wider network of local carers' support
Commissioned by Salford City Council (Community, Health and Social Care)
