How are we doing?

In 2008 around 400 households in the New Deal area were surveyed as part of the National Evaluation of New Deal for Communities Household Survey.  We now have the results - which continue to show how much the area is improving for those who live here.  The first such survey was done in 2002, and we can now update you on how what residents think has changed since then

Residents' survey findings from NDC

The latest MORI poll in the Charlestown and Lower Kersal New Deal for Communities area shows that residents firmly believe that things are looking up!

General area                            cromwell road improvements
  • 73% of residents are satisfied with the area as a place to live - up from 32% at the start of the programme.
  • 82% of residents feel that their quality of life is very or fairly good.
  • 61% of residents thought NDC kept them fairly or very well informed about what it does in the local area.
  • 66% of residents feel that NDC has improved the area a great deal or a fair amount, a dramatic increase from 22% in 2002.
  • 26% of residents who want to move, wish to stay in the NDC area, compared to 6% at the start of the programme.
Crime & Community Safety alley gates
  • 76% of residents say that they feel safe in the New Deal area - better than the average for the whole City.
  • 24% of residents say that they feel that household burglary is a problem, compared to 50% in 2002.  The burglary rate is now 2%.
  • 6% of residents feel that property being set on fire is a problem, compared to 34% in 2002.
  • 12% of residents feel that crowds or gangs cause a problem on the streets, compared to 28% in 2002.

Facilities

  • 65% of residents are satisfied with local parks and open spaces, compared to 14% in 2002.
  • 80% of residents are satisfied with local health facilities, compared to 29% at the start of the NDC programme.
  • 47% of residents are satisfied with local sports facilities, compared to 8% at the start of the programme.
  • 56% of residents have access to a PC at home, compared to 35% in 2002.
Health and wellbeing energise centre
  • 88% of residents have trust in the local health service, compared to 71% in 2002.
  • 82% of residents feel that their health has been good over the last year.
  • 36% of residents say that they feel part of the local community, compared to 22% at the start of the NDC programme.
  • 27% of adult residents have no qualifications, compared to 38% at the start of the programme
