Support from Age Concern

A worker has been appointed for the NDC area to provide an Age Concern Advocacy Service. The post is funded by NDC and managed by Age Concern, and is here to provide support, information, and advocacy to residents who are 60 years of age and older, and who live in Charlestown & Lower Kersal.

The project will work with older members of the community (60 years plus), to improve wellbeing and engage older people in community activities using existing facilities within the NDC area. The aim is to encourage independence; empower older people to express in their own way, issues of importance to them; encourage older people to make genuine and informed choices, and to improve self confidence and self esteem.

You can discuss any issues of concern such as re-housing, consumer matters, discharge from hospital, council tax, crime and community safety, housing removals, welfare benefits, health & social care or discuss difficult decisions, and the service means that the worker can also speak to others on your behalf. Home visits are available or if you prefer, meetings at local community venues can be arranged. Call the Eccles Office on 0161 788 7300.

If you would like further information about Age Concern ring 0161 788 7300. Further details can also be obtained by visiting the Age Concern website.

Salford City Council’s webpage links to wide range of services and activities for older people including:

Some of these services help you learn new ways of doing things at home. Other services help with the things that you can’t manage by yourself.

Working with older people, the NHS, voluntary and private sectors, Salford City Council have produced Growing Older IN Salford - a strategy for well being, which sets out the key building blocks that will help older people achieve and maintain control in their own lives. The building blocks are:

  • Tackling ageism
  • Information and access
  • Involvement
  • Inclusion
  • Measuring progress together
