Community Development Team

What does the Team do?

The Community Development Team is here to ensure that as many local people as possible are aware of the NDC programme. They are also here to support people to become involved in all aspects of programme. This involves:

  • Ensuring that there is two-way communication between the community and the NDC Partnership
  • Involving people in the identification, design, running and checking of NDC funded projects
  • ‘Sign posting’ local people to other sources of advice and support across the programme
  • Ensuring local people are equipped with the skills needed to be involved not only currently, but also once the NDC programme finishes
  • Building community cohesion
  • Capacity building
  • Increasing volunteering in the area
  • Empowering local people to have a voice

The team can help with the following:

  • Information about current & planned NDC projects
  • Information about services in the area provided by other organisations
  • Help people/groups to identify others locally with common interests
  • Support for people who wish to join established groups or even start their own project/interest group
  • Supporting the intensive neighbourhood management plan – To ensure those residents affected by the master planning in the area, the team will continue their work of building relationships with those communities.  Community issues will be identified and by working with other agencies, support will be offered to those communities
  • Helping tell the NDC story – Many local people have been involved in the NDC programme over the past six years and hopefully this will continue until 2011. The team will help the local evaluation of the programme by supporting local people to tell their story.  The team will not only support local people to promote the knowledge and skills they have gained but will share with partners the experiences local people have been involved with during the NDC Programme
  • Collecting the views of people and groups to inform the decision-making processes of the Task Groups and the board of NDC, via a variety of ways such as questionnaires, focus groups, events, visiting people door to door
  • Help to plan and run community events
  • Help for people/groups to widen their experiences & views, by supporting visits to other neighbourhoods both locally and nationally
  • Support for people/groups to access NDC-funded projects already operating in their area
  • Ensuring that NDC is accessible to all members of the community through use of clear and realistic jargon-free language
