Social Media Centre

The NDC Social Media Centre

Within the Innovation Forum building on Frederick Road there is a dedicated community space (approximately 81sq. m) secured by NDC's £300,000 contribution to the capital cost of the building.  The NDC Partnership approved a proposal for the development of a Social Media Centre in this facility which incorporates training and activities in media such as television, radio, and new web-based applications (web sites, blogging and podcasts).  The proposal also has a strong emphasis on community engagement and cohesion.

In December 2007 Manchester Community Information Network (MCIN), a not for profit social enterprise, was selected as the operator for the Social Media Centre, with the backing of NDC funding for initial start up and operation.  MCIN is working with a number of partners, including the University and Salford College, to develop the project.

The centre is now fully furnished and two members of staff have been appointed to manage and co-ordinate activities.  The Social Media Centre will be a vibrant project that will link the local community with the Innovation Forum and the employment opportunities that are being developed in the wider economy.  In that sense it provides an excellent example of 'connecting people' to the broader initiatives such as Knowledge Capital and Media City.
