What are Activity Grants for?

  • To have local activities for children and young people
  • Groups to work with Children and Young People letting them decide what they want to do
  • For Community and Voluntary groups
  • To bring the community together
  • Gives volunteers pride to run projects

Gives groups confidence to apply for other fundingGroups working together running joint events

How do we make decision what should be funded?

  • By having a panel of people to make decisions, this will be children, young people and a couple of community representatives
  • Have a limit on the amount of funding that groups can apply for
  • Following the guidelines set for approving funding
  • Scoring the projects
  • Groups that are based or work with children and young people from the New Deal area

What if I want to be on the panel, what is in it for me?

  • Learn about being part of a team
  • Chairing skills
  • Monthly sessions
  • Rewards
  • Ensuring the funding is spent on activities that can benefit the children and young people in your area

£58,000 has been spent so far this year on activities throughout the area. Groups that have benefited from the project have been

  • Duchy Youth Project
  • Kersal Families Club
  • Lower Kersal Young Peoples Groups
  • Little Einstein’s parent & toddler group
  • Little Steps parent & toddler group
  • Oliver’s Gym, Oliver’s Youth Club
  • Space Cadets
  • St Thomas Church
  • St Georges Residents Group
  • Whit Lane Residents Group
  • Yogurt Pots

Activities that have run have included

  • A joint trip to Blackpool with over 200 children from the Whit Lane Estate and Kersal estate
  • Money towards Party in the Park
  • Orienteering, mountain climbing and camping
  • Trips to Bowling, Crocky Trail, Lowry, Chill Factor, Chester Zoo
  • Holiday schemes with activities and trips out
  • Setting up a new playgroup
  • Fishing sessions taught by professional coaches

In total over 1000 children have benefited from the activities on offer throughout the area
