Grumpy believes that children should have opportunity to play, in a safe and creative environment, with appropriate materials, equipment and support.
Play is essential to every child's life and vital to the processes of human development; experience gained through play during the early years of childhood and youth forms the basis of adult behaviour.
Grumpy is established to support the valuable work carried out by poorly funded and greatly under-resourced groups and individuals, throughout the UK working at a local level, often voluntarily and in isolation. It is a voluntary membership organisation comprising parents, carers, teachers, playworkers, childminders, youth and community workers, artists, art therapists, alongside organisations such as local branches of Save the Children, Mencap, Barnardo's, National Children's Homes, The Prince's Trust.
Grumpy aims to improve the quality and range of play opportunities available to children and young people. Around 4000 members represent an estimated 250,000 children and young people who benefit directly from resources at Grumpy House. Countless thousands more children and young people benefit from Grumpy's work with other organisations throughout the UK.
