CRASY Project

The Community Sports & Activity Programme formerly known as CRASY (Crime Reduction through Active Sports for Youth) has kept the philosophy of promoting sport to effectively manage crime is now keen to tackle another social issue which affects the community such as health lifestyles for families’ notably young people.

Using sports as a method we are giving our local youngsters the ability to experience pursuits such as Climbing, Ice Skating and Canoeing, some of which have never had the opportunity to partake in such sports. By our testimonials we think the programme is working.

Impact on the local area

All the parents/guardians believe the holiday programme provides a valuable service that has a positive impact in the local area. The below comments support this finding:

  • Keeps the children off the street
  • Keeps kids off street, keeps them active and gets them together in a positive way
  • More and more kids are off the street
  • It gives children an interest, somewhere to go etc
  • Gives the children somewhere safe to go
  • It keeps children off the street and not in trouble
  • It gives the children something to occupy themselves and meet new friends

street games

Without holiday programme provided in the NDC area most children would be spending their time at home, ‘being bored’,  ‘playing on the computer’, ‘playing with friends’, ‘watching TV’ or ‘hanging around the streets’.

All of the parent/guardians completing an evaluation form would like to receive information on future sports and activities in the NDC area.

2 of the parents/guardians have put forward their details to become a volunteer helping on future activities.

Comments;

  • My child has enjoyed the sports and has found the staff nice and friendly
  • I think the sports development is a fantastic facility but because I live 25 mins walk away from the Albion it means I have to go there and sit with my children for an hour before afternoon session starts, I think the dinner hour should be supervised, I’m up and down 6 times a day, which I dint mind most days but can become tiresome when I have things to do or if its raining.”
  • I think it would be great if more girls were attracted to the sports especially football. Maybe more girls orientated sports. Although my daughter was the only girl at her venue, she was not at all put off by this and thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent there. So a huge thank you to all the staff that made it possible.”
  • Thomas has attended every holiday programme this year, last year and mid week term time with sports development. But the city wide football tournament on 18th August which he took part in and came runners up. It would have been nice if the runners up team also got a medal, the same as other football tournaments. Other than that, Thomas really enjoys himself.”
