Housing and new development
The next few years will see some major changes happening in Charlestown and Lower Kersal.
Schemes such as block improvements and alleygating have really made a difference to people's lives, with funding from NDC and the Manchester-Salford Housing Market Renewal Fund helping to transform terraced blocks throughout the area as part of the Manchester Salford Pathfinder. Environmental improvements have seen the addition of parking and play facilities, as well as road widening and the implementation of safety measures. New homes are also in the planning, with a number of homes already completed at Unity Quarter on the former Kersal High School site, and many more due to be built in the next 10 years, working with our developer partners Miller Homes and Inspired Developments, along with Manchester based architects Stephenson Bell.
Masterplanning for the Charlestown Riverside site started in autumn 2007, and a planning application is due to be submitted in 2009.
Please note that there have been important changes to the plans to redevelop the Lower Kersal Riverside site, which means that most residents in that particular area will no longer be affected by the redevelopment plans. Click here for more information.

Stunning views of the Manchester/Salford skyline viewed from Kersal Heights. 230 new homes started on site here in 2007 with the first home was completed in March 2008.
