Blandford Road Area Terraces

In what is a busy year for block improvements in the NDC area, November 2007 sees the launch of a further phase of block improvements, this time set to benefit 210 additional properties on Gerald Road, Seaford Road, Ventnor Street, Lydford Street, Coniston Street, Welford Street and Blandford Road.  The specification of works is identical to that of the ongoing 'Gateway Terraces' contract and comprises the following to the front elevation:

  • Brick cleaning
  • Repointing
  • Renewal of rainwater goods
  • Renewal of facia boards
  • Cleaning and repair of windows and doors as appropriate
  • Rebuilding of front garden walls and surfaces

In addition, the rear yard walls will be renewed and for gable end properties the gable yard wall will be heightened to match the height of the alley gates, in order to further improve security for residents

The contractors carrying out the improvement works on behalf of New Deal, Salford City Council and Salix Homes are G & J Seddon Ltd. Contract management and design services are provided by Urban Vision.

Taken together, 2007 and 2008 will see nearly 500 properties "block improved" to add to the 430 improved in previous years. This is expected to have a significant impact in terms of how the area is perceived and in improving quality of life for local communities.

Earlier this year four young people from the local area were given the opportunity to undertake work experience on the Blandford Road Area Terraces and Littleton Road Gateway Terraces block improvement schemes. Each individual received experience in a variety of areas including painting, joinery and aiding the electricians. Seddons' resident liaison officer David Unsworth said " we were very please with them - their attitude and the work they carried out was excellent from each of the lads".
