A Development Framework for Charlestown & Lower Kersal

In January 2004 a Development Framework was approved which sets out ideas for the transformation of Charlestown and Lower Kersal until 2011.

Key elements of the Framework include:

  • A safer more welcoming environment
  • A greater choice of housing
  • Better access to local services and places of work
  • Support for existing and new businesses

The details in this document were correct at time of going to press, but there have since been changes that have been as a result of feedback from residents and the recent changes in the housing market.

Please note in particular that there have been important changes to the plans to redevelop the Lower Kersal Riverside site, which means that most residents in that particular area will no longer be affected by the redevelopment plans. Click here for more information.

We have already achieved a lot, but we know that there is still more to do, and we aim to make sure that residents have the opportunity to influence the transformation of the area. During 2007 we held a range of workshops for the Kersal and Charlestown development areas which gave residents the opportunity to work with architects and planners on the once in a lifetime opportunity to help design the new neighbourhoods.
