A new community garden near the Albion Estate in the Charlestown area of Salford, known locally as the Dogtrack Estate, opened on Sat 7th May. Being near the Dogtrack Estate, the theme for the garden is naturally….Dogs!

The garden is the result of partnership working by residents on the Albion Estate and Groundwork, with vital funding for the project coming from New Deal for Communities, along with Housing Market Renewal Fund, European Regional Development Fund, Living Spaces and Awards for All.
Local resident and Chair of the Albion Residents’ Association, Carole Woodward said, “You can see from this garden what a community that works together can achieve. I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Groundwork who have worked hard on our behalf, and New Deal for Communities and others for funding the project.”
The garden has been cited by CABE as an excellent example of how the local community can come together to use derelict space as a catalyst for change.

Designs for the dog statues in the garden came from an artwork session with Groundwork, NDC and local residents.
