Duchy Lagoons
The Lagoons are a tranquil wildlife haven and angling resource in between Brindle Heath and the Duchy area. As a result of high levels of interest from residents on the Duchy Estate, Whit Lane Estate and Broughton Anglers, NDC commissioned Groundwork to look at the potential for improving the Duchy Lagoons.
A contamination survey of the lagoons and the surrounding area was undertaken. The survey indicated that there were no problematic contamination issues for the purpose of the work that would be involved if a project was to go ahead.
A steering group oversaw the production of the strategy, involving partners, residents and other interested bodies to develop a strategy for the regeneration of the area. This included the involvement of the wider community, especially young people, in the development of the vision of the site, development of sketch plans and draft costings and a document looking at potential funding sources.
The draft report has now been finalised, and the report and appendices are now available to download as pdf documents. The next stage will be to build on the partnership work so far to look at how we can take forward the recommendations. If you are interested in getting involved, please call us on 0161 607 8538.
