Community Funding

There are a number of funding options available to the Charlestown & Lower Kersal communities.


Community Chest is a popular scheme that is open to local community and residents' groups.

  • A Community Chest Start Up Grant enables groups to gain £100
  • The Community Chest itself offers up to £1,000 per year for such things as paving, painting, electrical work or purchasing equipment.

The Minor Works Fund is available for people in Charlestown & Lower Kersal to make small improvements to their area. It can provide solutions to tackling a variety of problems including rat running, fly tipping, unauthorised access, and pedestrian and community safety.

A limited amount of Community Training funding is now available for individuals and community groups to access training opportunities that will help to develop community groups and volunteers in the NDC area.

It is available for individuals to access short courses such as treasurer’s skills, management committee skills, minute taking, chairing meetings, partnership working, community involvement in regeneration, and for groups to access trainers/facilitators to help with action planning, understanding regeneration issues, planning meetings, community involvement, fundraising, etc.

Funding for Community Groups that organise activities with children & young people of any age from 0 to 19 is available from the Local Network Fund. There is £158,000 available before April 2006 for groups to access.
