Matlock Cross Environmental Improvements

This scheme was completed in September 2006, and has widened the narrow roads, improved access and parking provision and at the same time improved pedestrian safety, vehicle security and the general street scene.

This has been achieved by:

  • Moving rear boundary fencing by approximately one metre on either side
  • Creating a shared pavement & roadway surface
  • Replacing fencing and gates
  • Provision of replacement and additional hard standing parking areas

The scheme encompasses Matlock Avenue, Calton Avenue and Monsall Avenue where the roads were particularly narrow and difficult to negotiate. This is an area of mostly public housing, but there is also a significant proportion of private properties - however, all properties were included regardless of tenure.

This  was a joint scheme between New Deal for Communities and Salix Homes. The contractor was Caseys and design services were provided by Urban Vision. It consolidates previous ‘Decent Homes’ work carried out in the area.
