The area
This residential area is made up of a mixture of privately owned homes and Salix Homes managed social housing. A modern housing estate at Whitewater Drive now stands in the old grounds of the old Benedictine Monks’ Kersal Cell, in which one of the old Tudor houses still stands.  An ambitious building programme is currently underway to provide over 200 homes on the old Kersal High School site at the top of Moor Lane.

This part of Lower Kersal is also home to Kersal Moor, a large area of natural beauty and Local Nature Reserve that was the home of the Manchester Racecourse from 1687 to 1846.
