Transport

Transport is not just about cars and buses, it's also about cycling and walking to improve health and community safety.
The Red Path is an example of working in partnership with Groundwork and Sustrans to improve a well-used pedestrian and cycle route over the River Irwell to link to the Sustrans Cycleroute 6, local schools, Sports Village and Kersal Dale and The Cliff.
We also work closely with GMPTE to improve public transport, and also provide an NDC Minibus to help residents access meetings and events.
Cycling is a quick, cheap and stress free way of getting around that can often beat the car or the bus on those journeys to work, school, or college. And with such a wealth of countryside on the doorstep, we are working to establish a network of safe and attractive cycle routes that can be used for commuting or leisure. The Sustrans Route 6 runs alongside the Irwell and is a quick and picturesque route to Prestwich, Bury and the Pennine routes. For lots of really useful stuff about cycling in Greater Manchester take a look at CycleGM for route maps, events and good reasons why 2 wheels are better than 4!
